Interview with Adrian Schnyder, Kuessnacht am Rigi

How did you hear about SISEC?

Fred Voser was my coach in Kuessnacht am Rigi for 3 years. He told me about SISEC.

Are you here primarily because of the sport or the language?

I can’t say it’s primarily the sport or the language. The combination between sport, language and becoming acquainted with a new country is great.

Did you plan a language stay before you heard about SISEC?

Yes. I had scheduled it ever since I finished my school.

What was your first impression of Canada and Canadians?

The Canadians are very helpful and friendly. I like the country.

Was SISEC helpful in getting you used to your new place?

SISEC was a big help from the first day I arrived in Calgary.

There are always four students sharing a house. Do you think this is a better solution than living with a family?

I think the solution with the house is very good. We must see to the food, the laundry and cleaning the house.

How old were you when you began playing hockey, and how often do you train per week?

I started playing hockey when I was six years old. I train three times a week.

Is there a big difference between Swiss hockey and Canadian hockey?

No, I don’t think so. The Canadian rinks are smaller, that is the only difference for me.

What are you expecting from your language stay? What is your goal?

I will improve my English so that I can communicate all over the world. The hockey is a perfect preparation for the next season (2005 – 2006) in Switzerland.

You are here to play Hockey and for play Golf. What’s your experience so far?

For hockey, the goalie sessions for us players are very helpful.  As players, we learn from the goalies perspective and learn where we can score the goals.

With respect to golf, the number of golf courses is fascinating.

How important is sport in your life?

I would not live without the sport, but I  would not want to play it professionally.  It’s a perfect balance to my everyday life.

How do you like the FOCUS International Language School?

I like the school. We learn English oi an easy way.

What has been your most positive experience since you arrived?

The social life on the weekends.  I see my improvement when I speak with the local Canadians.
