How did you hear about SISEC? I saw a SISEC sticker in the arena in Kuessnacht. It made me curious… Are you here primarily because of the sport or the language? Both. I thought about a language stay for a while but I didn’t want to be without Hockey. So I was looking for a solution where I could practice both. The information about SISIC came at the right time. What was your first impression of Canada and Canadians? Canadians are crazy (laughing)! No, I would say they are not very different from the Swiss people. Maybe a little more open and helpful... Was SISEC helpful in getting you used to your new place? Yes, even though it was easy to get used to it. Raphael (another Swiss student) and I just went for drives and experienced the city on our own. Most of it – like driving – is very similar to Switzerland . But the first few days were important as we got to know the “little differences” and were able to get back to someone at SISEC to ask. How old were you when you began playing hockey, and how often do you train per week? I was four or five when I attended Hockey School ,
and there was only one place on the ice I wanted to be: in the Goal!
Is there a big difference between Swiss hockey and Canadian hockey? Because the ice rinks are smaller here than in Switzerland , the game is much faster, which means there’s more work for me to do! But this is definitely a great training opportunity for me. You have already been to Vancouver and Toronto and you’re planning to go to Edmonton and Los Angeles . How well did SISEC do at organizing your travel? It is amazing how helpful Fred was in this area. I probably wouldn’t have had the opportunity to see all these cities without the help from SISEC. The whole booking procedure would have been too difficult for me. My English is not that great yet (laughs). How do you like the FOCUS International Language School ? The school is great! It was very difficult for me to begin with, but everyone said, “You’ll get used to it”. Since then, I have learned a lot and I feel much more comfortable. The teachers are really creative and it is important to them that we have fun learning English. What has been your most positive experience since you arrived? All my trips to great Canadian cities; and even to the States. Without SISEC’s help, I couldn’t have done this... |
