Interview with Julia Marty, Nussbaumen

How did you hear about SISEC?

I play with Jeanette Marty in Zug. She is a friend of Fred (owner of SISEC) and told me about SISEC.

Are you here primarily because of the sport or the language?

We planned a language stay at a school. I was looking for a school that also offered the possibility to do sport. I think SISEC is the best one.

Did you plan a language stay before you heard about SISEC?

Yes. I had scheduled it for a long time.

Was SISEC helpful in getting you used to your new place?

SISEC was a big help from the first day I arrived in Calgary.

There are always four students sharing a house. Do you think this is a better solution than leaving with a family?

I think the solution with the house is good. An advantage is that we all get along very well at the house. A disadvantage is that you tend to speak less English.

What are you expecting from your language stay? What is your goal?

I want to improve my English and my hockey skills. Canada is the No. 1 in womens hockey. I think it’s the best preparation for the Olympic Games in Torino.

How old were you when you began playing hockey, and how often do you train per week?

I started playing hockey when I was seven years old. During a normal week I train every day.

You are also here to play Hockey. What’s your experience so far?

The people in Canada accept womens hockey better than in Switzerland. You train more technical skills. All the other things are similar to how its done in Switzerland.

How important is sport in your life?

Sport is very important in my life. I spend most of my free time playing hockey. It’s also a perfect balance to my everyday school life.

How do you like the FOCUS International Language School?

The school is good. We have a lot of grammar and conversations. It’s interesting to become acquainted with other countries and cultures.

What has been your most positive experience since you arrived?

The hole time in Calgary was just a wonderful experience.
