Interview with Patrick Kitschmann, Pfäffikon

How did you hear about SISEC?

I heard about it at the Daniel Huenis Goali school in Kloten and short after I read about SISEC in the “20 Minuten” Magazine.

Did you plan a language stay before you heard about SISEC?

Yes. I already had prospects and information about other schools at home. I decided for SISEC because I can practice hockey and I already knew Calgary.

What was your first impression of Canada and Canadians?

The people are very friendly. I already experienced this at the Stampede. At this huge event they are even friendlier; everything seems to be a big party…

Was SISEC helpful in getting you used to your new place?

Yes, they were very helpful even though I knew the City already a little bit. I just had to get used to the bus system. Schedules seem to work only on paper here… (laughs).

What are you expecting from your language stay? What is your goal?

My goal is to improve my English skills and become so good, that I am able to have fun reading an English book. Sports wise I want to improve my technique. With my weekly sessions at “Psycho Hockey” it seems to work. The lessons are great and I learn a lot.

How do you like living at the SISEC-House?

Even though the house is quite a distance from the downtown, I think this is a much better solution than staying with a family.

Have you already made friends with Canadians and is this a big help with learning English?

At the Hockey school, at practice and of course at school with the teachers I found people I like and we will definitely stay in contact. A great opportunity to keep practicing English back in Switzerland as well.

How important is sport in your life?

As a hobby it means a lot to me. A great alternative to the “thinking work”.

How do you like the FOCUS International Language School?

The school is great! All of the teachers are very motivated and friendly and the classmates are fun!

What has been your most positive experience since you arrived?

I would say my short trip to Vancouver – and seeing the success of my English and Hockey skills.
